No matter your security needs, when it comes to choosing a security services provider, you want to know that you are in safe hands.
Choosing a contractor that is approved by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) is a good start when it comes to choosing a security partner that you can trust.
As SIA approval is the private security industry’s hallmark of quality, you can be sure that, by choosing an SIA approved contractor, you will be working with a security company that has been ‘independently checked and is one of the top suppliers in the sector’.
What is an SIA approved contractor?
An SIA approved contractor is a private security company that has voluntarily submitted to be approved by the SIA and included in their Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS).
Any company that is approved under the SIA’s scheme will appear on their ACS register. You can find Kingfisher SEC’s entry here.
Who are the SIA
The SIA is the organisation responsible for regulating the private security industry in the UK.
As a regulator, they are responsible for setting the standards of training and conduct for private security personnel.
They also monitor the activities of those operating within the private security sector and provide recommendations to improve standards within the industry.
The SIA’s main duties are to license designated roles for security personnel working within the private security industry, as well as approving private security companies that wish to be part of the voluntary Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS).
Top 10% of SIA approved security contractors
Here at Kingfisher SEC, we’re ranked in the top 10% of SIA approved security contractors in the UK.
This means that we have significantly exceeded the minimum standards and criteria required to be registered under the SIA’s Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS).
What it takes to be ranked in the top 10%
The Approved Contractor Scheme is ‘a recognised hallmark of quality within the private security industry’.
To be approved under the scheme, security companies are assessed against ‘78 achievement indicators’ which take into account many different areas of their business -including staff training, financial management, health and safety policies and so on.
To rank in the top 10% of SIA approved contractors in the UK, a security company has to exceed the ‘pass mark’ by a significant number of points.

The ACS is a ‘progressive quality standard’, meaning that it is regularly revised, to continually raise the standard that private security companies must meet to be approved under the scheme.
